Filmi style!

More often than I should probably admit, I see props in Hindi movies that look suspiciously similar to things that I myself own.

Nutan in Dilli Ka Thug has a little bobbly dancing-doll thingy:

I have one too:

Many many sets are decorated with dead stuffed leopards or leopard skins:

I have one too (it’s very old! my dad got it in Angola! don’t set PETA after me):

Tiaras appear pretty often:

Here are a few of mine:

It cracks me up when strangers come up to me and say “Congratulations!” just because I’m wearing one.

I love the glass chandeliers in older films:

I got mine in Venice:

Here’s some sort of swashbuckler-pirate bust:

I have one too:

He reminds me a little bit of Farah Khan’s husband Shirish Kunder.

… ummm, you wear tiaras? *snigger* For what occasion?? :-/

I like the Manipuri dancing doll. It would be great if you could name the rest of the films.

Who needs an occasion? A tiara makes whatever you are doing an occasion.

I don’t remember what all the films are: I think the one of the pirate is Karz, the chandeliers is Kanyadaan; Indrani Mukherjee in the tiara is Dharam-Veer, but the others I’m drawing a blank on.

That’s a hoot! I have a tiara as well, and I occasionally wear it at work as a mood-enhancer. It’s hard to feel anything other than a million bucks when you have one on.

Thank you for the validation, Miss Beth! Princesses (or Memsaabs) such as ourselves should never have to justify wearing a tiara! (Or owning pirate busts, or glass chandeliers, or leopard skins…okay maybe we should have to justify that. Hopefully, I did.)

Great post! That leopard skin is beautiful. I have one in my living room (from Tanzania), but that doesn’t mean I refrain from being an active contributer to the World Wildlife Fund :)

Love your filmi tashan! :D (I NEVER thought i’d be using that word, omg). I love your chandelier- i am so going to find one for me- totally inspirational!

Shirish as a swashbuckling pirate is killing me laughing….:D

Tiaras, leopard skin and a Shirish Kunder bust. Almost sounds like a blog name :-)

Question: Does wearing the tiara make you want world peace?

Now I know where to go to hire props and such for my next film. :)

BollywoodFan: yes, me too. My Dad said this guy just showed up at his door one day with a dead leopard slung over his shoulder. He asked if Dad wanted it and skinned it on the spot. Gruesome!

Shweta: go to Murano or Venice :-) You can get them made just how you want them.

Ramsu: it makes me want to DEMAND world peace!

Banno: and there’s so much more that I haven’t taken photos of yet!!!! :-) I will happily help you style your first masala epic!

I thought after the picture of Shirish and Farah that you were going to say, “I have one too” and post a pic of you with Shirish. LOL I am totally in envy of your tiara collection. I had been working on my bangles sets but now I see I need more bling for my head. ;-)

I’m slowly selling off some of my tiaras. A girl can only wear so many! I won’t get rid of them all, though :-)

    Hi ,

    I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be wow.. u write well.. Why don’t you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Memsaab Story’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run http://www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

    Cheers,
