Kudos memsaab for opening the eyes of many Indians – oblivious, right under their noses – to the 100 years old Hindi film industry’s many stars and gems of yore.
I stumbled upon your blog while researching on Rohit Shetty’s father and lo – behold : his bald gleaming towering personality – reminisced me of his fist fights with many a 80′s and 90′s Screen Heros.
Keep up the good work..

it is disheartening to know the status of so many celeberaties going down the drain. Lack of financial planning is one major cause. It makes them to go to booze or gambling. Society instead of helping them , spoils them. It is pity to see Meena Kumari , Pradeep , Vimi, Cuckoo etc. to name a few dying in penury. Why dont the crores are given by current superstars to Cine Artists Association , so that none of the artists have to beg on streets.
I thank you to give respect to artists who have fallen in bad times . Please find out and display if any artist which is in grave financial difficulties. Please send the details to all rich directors/ stars.

I've just seen this movie - and guess what? I actually liked it. :-)

Ok, so there's a sacrificing Meena Kumari but she does have her half hour of fun and smiles with her husband before disaster strikes again.

What I liked about the movie is that there is a flow - and no unnecessary diversions from the storyline. It's a Hrishikesh Mukherjee direction - and that always means high-quality editing too.

Even Mehmood is much more watchable in this movie than in many of his other movies where he's often part of an annoying CSP. Here he has a substantial and substantive role.

I quite liked the songs too.

So, yes, there were misery elements - and some unrealistic ones too - but overall, I quite liked it. Maybe my expectations from movies of that period aren't all that high anyway, so I often get pleasantly surprised. I had NO expectations at all from this movie, so there was no question of disappointment either. :-)

AAP KI KASAM was somewhere around JULY/AUG 1974 as to best of my rememberence, those days since I was class Fourth student,as such to us during those days,KHOTE SIKKAY,36 GHANTE,GADDAR,rest all those action beholded more prominence for us,but when I Grewup saw this movie once again,I understood, not only this movie had one of finest musical score, which every song was hit,but even content was with such great relevance, that even it beholds you, superlative performances by three major players, not to forget SANJEEV uncles underplayed/subdued performance,Herein I Remember a comment by respected J.OM PARKASH JI,somewhat surprising, and he wrote, that personaly he was not happy with music of his three movies, namely RAJA RANI(1973)AAP KI KASAM(1974)and AANDHI(1975)all three by legenedry R.D.BURMAN DA,and it can be heard even today fourty years after there release.THE basic idea was that sometimes even small/minute misunderstanding is resolved in ones lifetime,so before jumping to any conclutions, think twelve times,it also remineds me of another movie though thatone was 1976(DO ANJANE)where I Personaly I Believe the ending was comprised, though the circumstances it was chaged if at all, they must be with REKHA aunty/AMIT uncle,I Hope RAJESH uncle now in another world must be in peace/happiness.RAVINDER MINHAS,JALANDHAR CITY,PANJAB,minhas35@yahoo.com.

I was looking for anywhere that had a review/storyline from Pyar Kiya to Darna Kya. I didn't know until I googled "Zindagi kya hai" today that it was sung for Shammi. Haven't you seen it either? I will delve into your archives to see if perhaps you have. I think it must have been a remake of a South Indian film, going by the credits.
During the summer I was on holiday in Hyderabad and fell in love all over again with Shammi (and Shashi, a little bit) through watching old songs late at night on three or four Hindi music channels. And Rafi too. I hadn't realised he sang so many good songs for Shashi too.
